Data Areas and Copying

Visualizing the process, the areas containing data are conveniently marked in blue, while the areas being duplicated are shown in red. It's a process as seamless as it is transparent, making the most of technological advancements.

HDD Copy Modes

The Role of the Hard Drive's Controller Chip

The total time required for duplication is contingent upon the speed supported by the hard drive's controller chip. This means that every operation is performed at the fastest possible pace without compromising data integrity.

Benefits for Manufacturers

Reaching a top speed of 9GB/min across all HDDs simultaneously, U-Reach SATA HDD duplicators make no compromise on speed, regardless of the number of targets. This aspect makes the duplicator a must-have tool for manufacturers requiring high-speed, efficient data duplication.

High Compatibility

  • In Quick Copy mode, the duplicators support a wide variety of file systems including Windows (FAT16/32/64), Linux (ext2/ext3/ext4/LVM), and Mac (HFS/HFS+/HFSX) formats. This compatibility is the secret sauce that ensures smooth operation, irrespective of the operating system in use.
  • Whole Media Copy mode, on the other hand, supports all system and proprietary formats. This mode is ideal for those seeking complete data replication.
  • Regardless of the brand or the maximum capacity of the hard drive, U-Reach HDD/SSD duplicators are designed to offer flawless support, making them the ideal choice for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike.
  • Designed to support the highest capacity available on the market.
  • U-Reach HDD/SSD duplicators extend their support to both MBR and GPT partitioning, thus covering all bases in terms of data storage architecture.

Sanitization Methods

  • Quick Erase: erases the HDD index table in just a few seconds, ensuring swift data sanitization.
  • Full Erase: eliminates all data from the HDD, providing a thorough cleanup of your storage devices.
  • DoD Erase: complies with U.S. Department of Defense erasure standards, delivering a secure sanitization method that aligns with top-tier data protection protocols.
  • Secure Erase: is a method endorsed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology 800-88 for effectively purging hard drives. Almost all modern SATA HDDs support this method.

Auto Rejection of Slow Devices

One of the more exceptional features of the U-Reach duplicators is the auto-rejection of slow devices. This feature is designed to prevent issues that could affect the duplication or sanitizing process. Users can set a minimum writing speed threshold, thereby ensuring a streamlined and efficient workflow.

Verification of Data Integrity

Although U-Reach duplicators offer straightforward copying, they also place a high emphasis on data verification. This is done through a bit-by-bit process, ensuring that the copied data is accurate and reducing the risk of customer recalls.

Skipping Bad Sectors

Skip Bad Sectors

U-Reach duplicators provide the option to skip bad sectors from the source device. This function can  be customized, allowing users to select the number of bad sectors to skip, ranging from 0 to unlimited.

U-Reach HDD/SSD duplicators, with their wide range of functionalities and user-friendly features, have set a high benchmark in the field of data duplication and sanitization. By offering high-speed operation, immense compatibility, and various sanitization methods, these tools cater to a plethora of user needs, making them indispensable for data management tasks.

Questions & Answers

Q1. How does system and files copy differ from whole media copy modes?

With the pace of a cheetah and the precision of a Swiss watch, our hard drive duplicators support all brand types. They perform a bit-by-bit copy at impressive speeds, finishing a 1TB hard drive in a mere 1-3 hours, depending on your specific HDD and duplicator model.

Our duplicators also champion the "data-only quick copy", letting you leapfrog empty HDD sectors and save precious time.

Beyond the primary copy function, our duplicators come armed with additional capabilities such as the erase function and DOD erase for secure data management.

Q2. How long does the process take for duplicating 1TB using HDD duplicators?

  • Carry series: Traveling at a remarkable speed of up to 9GB/min, 1TB duplication takes approximately 2.5-3 hours.
  • Industrial IT/MT Standard Series: Same pace as the Carry series with 1TB duplication taking roughly 2~2.5 hours.
  • High-speed Series: Double the pace, with speeds reaching up to 18GB/min, your 1TB duplication is finished within the hour
  • Daisy-Chain Super 1 Tower Series: With copy speeds at up to 9GB/min, 1TB duplication will take around 2.5-3 hours.

Q3. How do HDD duplicators and ghost software differ?

GHOST requires installation on your PC and can only handle 2 HDDs concurrently. Its operation speed is subject to the PC's hardware capabilities.

In contrast, our HDD duplicators, operating independently of your PC, back-up large volumes of HDDs simultaneously without any speed decline.

Q4. Is it possible to duplicate HDDs of varying capacities?

Yes, HDDs with different capacities can be copied. However, you should consider the copy mode in use.

  • Quick copy analyses whether data duplication is possible according to its capacity and location.
  • When copying in NTFS format, the target HDD's capacity must exceed the source by at least 1MB.

Q5. Can SSD HDD be copied?

Absolutely. All our HDD/SSD duplicators support SSD copying.

Q6. Can IDE HDD be copied?

Yes, several of our series including the IT, ITS, MT, MTC, MTS, and carry mini series support IDE HDD copying with a SATA-IDE converter.

Q7. Why would a copy operation fail?

Several reasons could cause a copy operation to fail:

  1. If the source HDD's data capacity exceeds that of the target HDD.
  2. For NTFS copying, the target HDD must have a capacity greater than the source HDD by at least 1MB.
  3. Check for bad sectors in either the target or source HDD if the copy operation stops or fails.
  4. If you're unable to determine the cause, please provide us with detailed information about the duplicator and HDDs, along with a description of the problem. We'll assist you as soon as possible.

Q8. Why is the copying process slow?

Several factors could slow down the copying process:

  1. The speed limit of the HDD. You can verify this on your PC.
  2. Check the orientation of your HDD; any movement can affect the HDD's read/write speed.
  3. If copying multiple HDDs, check if the issue is limited to specific targets. It could be due to a damaged connector module. Please reach out to your local seller for a replacement.

Q9. Can encrypted data be copied?

Given the multitude of encryption methods available, you might need to conduct tests to ascertain whether your encrypted data can be copied. We recommend following the below steps:

**NOTE:** Ensure the target drive's capacity is at least equal

to that of the source drive before starting the test.

STEP 1: Execute the Data Area Copy on the Duplicator
Depending on the result, follow the appropriate path:

S1. If the green light is on and the copied device works normally, you're good to go.
S2. If the red light turns on at the start of the copy process, the device can't be detected, and the copy operation fails.
S3. If the green light is on, but the copied device doesn't work properly, proceed to STEP 2.
S4. If the red light turns on during the copying process or near completion, proceed to STEP 2.

STEP 2: Perform the Whole Media Copy on the Duplicator

S1. If the green light is on and the copied device works normally, the copy operation is successful.
S2. If the green light is on, but the copied device doesn't work properly, the copy operation fails.

If the device still doesn't work properly after performing the Whole Media Copy, it implies that the encryption is specific to a particular device serial number or device model, and hence, the device won't work even if copied.
